Storyline
A side-scrolling beat em up steeped in the myths of Ancient Greece, Altered Beast opens with an act of divine outrage. Neff, the demonic ruler of the underworld, has abducted the goddess Athena and dragged her down into his dark realm. Her father, the mighty Olympian god Zeus, is determined to see her freed and searches for a worthy champion to send against the underworld's forces. Admiring the courage of Rome's legendary soldiers, Zeus raises a fallen Roman centurion from the grave, granting the resurrected warrior extraordinary power to carry out the rescue. Now the centurion must battle across five stages teeming with the shambling undead and monstrous creatures of legend, fighting ever closer to Neff, who lies in wait at the end of each level. By gathering spirit orbs along the way, the champion can transform into fearsome mythical beasts, unleashing devastating powers in his quest to defeat Neff and save Athena.
